  • Most executive search firms have a vast network of contacts in various fields of business. Networking is a major way that executives come into contact with search firms, and through them become candidates for open positions.

  • It is common for executive recruiters working with contingency firms to contract for between 25% and 35% of an executive's first-year salary. This amount is not taken out of the salary, but is paid by the company that hires the executive.

  • Very large executive search firms handle a high volume of clients and placements. They have access to a vast number of talented individuals who might be right to fill the position at your company.

  • Smaller search firms (sometimes called "boutique" search firms), on the other hand, have the advantage that they can be very focused on and responsive to your business' needs.
