  • Latex gloves are gloves worn on the hands made out of latex rubber. They are used for multiple forms of protection by all types of professions and people.

  • Latex gloves are used for the protection of those who wear them to provide a barrier between potentially dangerous substances or chemicals and their skin. They are also used to protect others from any possible forms of contamination such as the spread of germs from the person wearing the gloves.

  • The most common type of latex glove is the disposable form. These latex gloves can be bought virtually anywhere from medical supply stores to pharmacies.

  • Several professions such as individuals who work in the medical field or laboratories use latex gloves on a regular daily basis in order to protect themselves from potential harmful substances as well as to protect others from contamination.

  • Once medical professionals or lab technicians come into contact with germs or bacteria of any kind they must promptly dispose of the pair of latex gloves they were wearing and put on a new pair. Doctors and nurses must also wear a new set of gloves each time they see a new patient and cannot wear the same pair of gloves they wore with an individual patient at an earlier encounter.

  • Other professions that use latex gloves include the restaurant industry, nail techs, hair dressers, estheicians, janitorial, tattoo artists, and forensic investigators.

  • Some individuals especially those who frequently use latex gloves can develop an allergy to the material. In some people the allergic reaction is only a small rash or redness in the hand area but others develop respiratory problems such as wheezing and even asthma.

  • Latex gloves are also used for everyday tasks such as household cleaning, applying self tanner, at home hair color, painting, and wallpapering.
