  • Start your 403b plan as early as you can. The earlier you start your retirement plan, the more time you will have to invest money into it. This will allow you to retire more comfortably. You will be glad you started early when retirement age comes.

  • Before accepting a new job, talk to them about what retirement plans they offer. Ask about 403b plans.

  • Stay involved in your 403b account. Know where your money is being invested and how much is being invested. Know how much is being put into the account each month. Keep track of your account and it will be easier for you to spot any problems, should they arise.

  • If you borrow money from your403b, put it back as soon as possible. The more money you have in the account, the more chance you have of yielding more money from interest and stocks.

  • Contribute as much as you can to your 403b account. Also check to see if your employer will match some or even all of your contributions into your account.
