Spinal Cord Injuries (SCIs) are those that happen when the cells within the spinal cord are damaged or the nerve tracts that send signals throughout the spinal cord are severed. This results in a loss of mobility and/or feeling. Spinal cord injuries usually happen from a traumatic event and they occur in about 12,000 to 15,000 people in the United States every year.
