  • Windshield wipers are an automotive electronic that is used often when driving an automobile to wipe rain or dirt from a windshield. Working windshield wipers are generally a legal requirement on a vehicle. A wiper usually consists of an arm that pivots at one end with a long rubber blade attached to the other end. The blade moves back and forth across the glass pushing water from the surface of the glass. Normally, the speed is adjustable with several continuous speeds and intermittent settings.

  • Rack and pinion steering is almost always power assisted. The steering box turns the rotation of the steering wheel at a 90 degree angle and the power steering uses a high pressure fluid in order to activate the steering.

  • A radar detector is an electronic device that can be installed into a vehicle to alert motorists as to when their speed is being monitored. The more modern radar detectors have new technology that uses pulsed laser light instead of radio waves. The detector works by detecting the infrared light that is given off by the pulsed laser light.

  • A car audio system consists of components such as head units, amplifiers, speakers, and auxiliary devices. Each component complements each other and has no affect on its own. The head unit of a car audio system is much like the brain and central processing unit of the system. Control and tuning of the volume, bass, equalizer, etc., is performed through the use of the head unit.

  • The body controller is a computer within your car that takes care of a variety of functions. The body controller makes sure the interior lights stay on until you start the car.

  • If you leave your key in the ignition or leave your headlights on, the body controller beeps to alert you.

  • The body controller monitors all sources of a lock or unlock signal. The body controller monitors door mounted touch pads used to unlock the car doors when the correct code is entered into the keypad. It monitors the radio frequency and unlocks the door when the correct code is received from the radio transmitter located in your key fob. When a signal is received, the body controller powers the actuator that unlocks the door locks.

  • The lifting mechanism is the main mechanism of a power window system. A small electric motor is attached to a worm gear and other spur gears to create a large gear reduction which provides enough torque to raise the window.
